Bruce Pon (BigchainDB) and Shermin Voshmgir (BlockchainHub) were invited to introduce Blockchain and it’s use cases to a group of CDU/CSU policy makers on 31.1.2017 at an event called Coffee & IT(ee), and were subsequently asked to compile a list of political demands from within the Blockchain Startup Ecosystem.

Here is the final Blockchain Policy Paper for Germany (read only version) that was submitted in Feb 2017 to the CDU/CSU Fraktion. This document is the result a collaborative effort by numerous members of the Berlin Blockchain community (see names in document).

We would like to use this collaborative effort as a basis for ongoing policy making suggestions accessible to the public and available across all political parties. If you would like to contribute to this paper, please comment directly in this open and collaborative version of the document. It is based on the version we submitted in February. This document will be kept online as pubic domain, and will be available for policy makers across all political parties.

We are also collaborating with the Initiative “Bundesverband Blockchain” which is currently in the making. The goal of this initiative is to make policy suggestions to the German Government, independent from political parties.

KOINA Workshop

Money is a Contract – Let’s make it smart!
KOINA aims to build a democratic monetary system that provide liquidity for a sustainable economy and relieves the real economy from the pressure of the financial world. The KOINA system wants to allow registered economic entities to self-create money (equity tokens) via a legal smart contract which is executed on the KOINA techno-legal platform. This network of distributed ledgers is non-blockchain based powered by the Pactum P2P Protocol.

The KOINA Team would like to invite you to this event in order to present and discuss the 3 layers that KOINA is tackling:

  1. KOINA Monetary Design and its economic purpose
  2. Pactum P2P-Protocol a true peer to peer solution for KOINA
  3. Legal Aspects of how KOINA intends to automate arbitration to reduce risk

Goal: We are looking for interested individuals and domain experts who are able to challenge the KOINA endeavour thoroughly in open discussions, identify potential challenges and solutions within that workshop.

AGENDA

14:00 Welcome & Introduction

14.15 Presentation
Introducing KOINA: Keynote by Daniel Neis
Money is a Contract – Let’s make it smart!
Daniel Neis, Founder and CEO of KOINA, will explain the KOINA System and which problems KOINA aims to solve. He will shortly talk about the destructive chain reaction today’s money creation sets off and how to crack that FIAT. Daniel will also touch on the four pillars of wealth creation in a modern society and the role of decentralized technology before he will end by describing the KOINA Go-to-Market Strategy and how they decentralized the KOINA business model.

Q&A

15:00 Economic Round Table
“Redesigning Money”
The first discussion will be moderated by Daniel + Kathrin and deep dive into the KOINA Monetary Design focussing on its economic goal of promoting a sustainable economy. The goal of the discussion is to identify challenges while rolling out KOINA to the real economy.

16:00 Break

16:30 Presentation
KOINA Techno-Legal Platform
Taulant Ramabaja, CEO of Bitsapphire (Software provider for KOINA), will introduce the technology behind KOINA including the Pactum P2P-Protocol with focus on automated arbitration service and how KOINA will utilize different blockchain inspired technologies over its roll-out cycle. Furthermore, Taulant is going to talk about the KOINA approach to handle and construct legal smart contracts capable of interacting with the existing legal systems, which crucial role automated arbitration plays in the future, and how Pactum is used to facilitate such contracts without the need for intermediary servers.

Q&A

17:10 Techno Legal Round Table
“Automated Arbitration”
The second discussion is going to be moderated by Taulant + Shermin trying evaluate the introduced technical solution for KOINA and the question of reducing risk in a P2P Credit Network like KOINA by the automated execution of legal smart contracts.

18:10 Summary, next steps & drinks
Wrap-up with an open discussion around challenges, potential bottlenecks, and identifying who else could use or benefit from the technology underlining KOINA.

Official Press Text
Presseeinladung: Blockchain City Berlin

Mick Halsband and Elad Verbin developed a metaphor of the Bitcoin blockchain as a social LARP (Live Action Role Play). The first event was conducted for a class of Art Students at Universität der Künste as part of the RCPP (Research Center for Proxy Politics) in Berlin this December. Participants got a hands-on experience with the inner mechanics of this blockchain system. The main goal of this LARP was be to explore the mechanics of a blockchain’s incentives system, namely the functioning of the mining networks and consensus layer.

Since these mechanics rely on less common game-theoretical concepts, a hands-on LARP (rather than other more academic approaches) can helpfully illuminate intricacies and behaviors to non technical and uninitiated crowds.

To better understand the incentive mechanism behind state of the art blockchains, currently PoW (proof of work), and to understand the ways in which it can fail, the students role played a mining network and experienced those incentives hand on.

Using pen and paper, participants had to compet in solving simple puzzles, and raced each other to a central board in an attempt to gain rewards for securing valid solutions. Starting with a naive set of rules, and through gradual development of the system, the game demonstrated the complicated workings of a system very analogous to a decentralized blockchain.

Students learned the following key concepts through role pay:

Ledgers
Mining
Chaining
Decentralization
Incentive mechanism (PoW) how they make everything work and allow consensus
How non-idealized ledgers behave (in a near-real-world manner)
The workings of a sample protocol for building a ledger

Find a closer description of this LARP on Github. You are welcome to fork this idea!

Ric from Pey will join us and present two exciting Blockchain use cases he is working on:

Monday, Dec 5, 2016 @ 7:00 PM
Waldemarstrasse 37a, 10999 Berlin, Hinterhaus, 3rd Floor Ring @ Ethdev UG

Hafven’s Decentralized Facility Management
How can you reduce the effort to maintain and administer large facilities? Hafven, one of the largest co-working and maker spaces in Germany, will soon achieve this by motivating the community to do such certain facility management tasks. By offering incentives in the form of Hafven’s internal crypto currency, everyone is motivated to help maintain and administer the whole space. Tasks range from bringing out the trash to organising community events that are placed in a decentralised marketplace. In the end, the community can choose to spend the crypto currency at Hafven’s own Café or use it to pay for rent.

Get Rid of your Mobile Internet Contract
Does everyone need a mobile internet contract? At the moment, yes. But hopefully not any longer in the future! What would it be like if everyone could open its devices (smartphones, routers, etc) for everyone and earn money for sharing? Creating a decentralised, autonomous organisation which rewards its members for transferring data packages within a mesh network could be the solution to over come the large infrastructure investments required by todays telecommunication providers and serve new markets in non-developed regions.

About Ric
Ricardo Ferrer Rivero was born in Venezuela. At the age of 9 his family moved to the USA, where he went to school for several years engaging himself in programming, technology and the internet. At the end of 2003 he moved to Germany to pursue studies in business informatics. In the last 6 years he founded a series of companies: the coworking space “Edelstall” (merged into “Hafven”), cloud storage service “doctape” (acquired by Atlassian), an investment firm called “533 AG”, “PEY”, a blockchain mobile payments system and most recently “VRTX Labs”, a sandbox for enterprise real-time data visualisation in virtual / augmented reality.
